Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross, also known as the Way of the Cross or Via Crucis, is a series of 14 images depicting the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Some of the stations are not based on explicit description in the Bible but have become part of the tradition to reflect the journey Jesus took to his death.

Many years ago I created a virtual presentation on one of my sites and some where along the way I managed to delete it. This year, I decided it was time to create a new one. The images presented here were created by me in Midjourney, an AI generative art tool. I’ve not been able to generate consistent characters yet so the images of Jesus will vary.

I’ve written the accompany reflections to reflect my own thoughts based on biblical readings and traditions around the events. I’m merely a traveller on the way, like you. I welcome you to take time to pause and gather your own thoughts at each station.

1 Jesus is Condemned to Death

Pontius Pilate judged Jesus but found no crime, yet yielded to the crowd’s demands incited by religious leaders threatened by Jesus’ ministry. This profound injustice saw the Son of God, who embodied truth and love, condemned to death, demonstrating humanity’s sinfulness and need for redemption.

Over 2000 years later, injustices persist across individuals, governments, and churches. Have we not learned? Reflect on your own biases and prejudices. I often feel ashamed of mine but strive not to act on them, acknowledging my imperfection and progress.

Jesus willingly accepted his fate, preparing his disciples for change. Through his ultimate selflessness and love, he submitted to God’s will for our salvation. The scriptures portray a loving, relational God who asks us to seek and listen. Jesus exemplified transformative love and forgiveness.

Let’s be inspired by Jesus’ example, confronting injustices in our lives and the world. Emulate his love, forgiveness, and self-sacrifice, building a just and compassionate world. Change begins with our choice to change and inspire others.
